What’s Self-Projecting Projections About?
Self-Projecting Projections is my corner of the internet where I stumble through the collision of creativity, commerce, and culture. Think of it as therapy for making sense of the creative world while running a creative business with weekly publishing, offering candid reflections on leadership, creative integrity, and building something meaningful.
My Story
I grew up in a small Alberta town in Canada, where big dreams seemed improbable yet inevitable. After university, I made the unconventional leap to Hong Kong to pursue professional soccer. Between an affinity for sneakers and a lot of free time, I serendipitously ended up in media in the early formative days of blogging.
Enter HYPEBEAST, where I came on board as their first-ever editor and rose up the ranks to become the Editorial Director. Along the way, I witnessed firsthand how cultures are built, how they intersect, and how creativity is commercialized in both good (and bad) ways.
This perspective became invaluable when I founded MAEKAN and later Adam Studios, ventures born from a belief that brands and storytelling deserve depth and nuance in an increasingly fragmented media landscape. Each step, whether wandering aimlessly on weekends without a car, to global media leadership, has shaped my understanding of what connects us beyond geographical and digital borders.
I write to explore these connections, to challenge industry conventions, and to document the emerging ideas and movements in creative work today.
You see can see more of my work below:
Adam Studios, a global studio focused on strategy, creative, content, and design with imprints in Hong Kong, San Francisco, Tokyo, and Seoul.
MAEKAN, a hybrid digital and print publisher focused on the underserved stories of creative culture across Asia and the world.
